I don't know what I'm doing....

Where is the American support system? What has happened to our sense of pride for our country and for our troops who are laeving all they love and live for behind to fight for this country? Day after day, I hear people talk about the faults of the President and the insignificant of the war in Iraq, but what do they really know about it? I hear people deliberatly not singing the National anthem and see the animosity with which they view America and it's ideals. What have we come to as a nation, and will we ever be able to come together and fight for each other and not againt the very thing that we once fought FOR? If we cannot learn to support our country and our troops-even if we can't agree with the cause- then soon we will fall apart.

It's simple, for too many the "cool" thing is to show your independence by showing your digust for the country. For others, they can't seem to separate their hatred for Prs. Bush from the nation (as if the president is the country itself). Then there are those who simply take the side of those who kill Americans. The Cindy Whatsernames and her supporters.

Love of country doesn't mean love of everything about her, but if people say they love their country, but can't seem to find anything good to say about her, I would tend to question that love.

I would like to show the people who do that kind of thing what me and my family go through every day to protect the rights that allow them the right to do that.

I'd like to show them little boys crying out at night for their daddy because they dreamed he got shot - only to find that dad's not there because he's in the middle east, serving his country.

I'd like to show them all the missed birthdays and holidays, anniversaries spent apart...all the 'I love you's' that we have to say over the phone instead of in person. I'd like for them to have to tell their kids that dad's safe and not in harms way when all the while I'm scared shitless to turn on CNN for fear of what I might see. I'd love for them to be able to see how I and millions of other families sacrifice and go without so that they can CHOOSE to exercise their constitutioinal freedom and complain about how bad America is.

Yeah, this country isn't the best. But it's a damn sight better than a LOT of places I've been to. If they really don't like it here, then I suggest that they leave - and turn in their passport as they go.

Heh, heh...well, look who's back. Nice to see you posting again.

Personally, I think Bush sucks....he is one of the worst leaders I've ever seen. The war in Iraq shouldn't have happened...however, the one in Afghanistan should be more active. 4 years after the attacks on the World Trade Center and we caught a guy.....not THE guy who was responsible....that's what pisses me off about this war business. I want our troops to fair well...even if they shouldn't be there in the first place....*sigh*. Yes...I support the troops, however, I am strongly opposed to this administration. Let's get some good ol' Democrats back in office...this kind of crap didn't happen in the Clinton administration...the biggest thing there was the sex scandal, and that didn't kill anyone, did it?

Yes! Exactly!!! My soon to be father in law is a marine who served in Iraq for a year and a half, leaving all he loved behind. And I do hear stories from his family about the anguish of waiting anxiouly to hear his voice one more day. And about how the only thing they prayed for was his return. It breaks my heart to hear these thing and still know there are people out there- in my very school even- that could " care less" and they hate this country or whatever.

Thanks for replying! I really appreciate your insight and understanding!

They are here, and listening.  But dont listen to 'everyone' as not everyone is here and listening.  Listen to the ones that are.  And ignore the ones that are not.

I think my brain turned upside down in my skull upon initially reading that.

I don't think there is widespread support like at the start of the war but I still see lots of cars with those little magnet ribbons on them.

I am not a Bush lover. I did not vote for him but I think he deserves respect as the President. I also believe that Bush had access to secure intelligence that cannot be released to the general public. I don't presume that I know everything he knew when he made the decision to go to Iraq.

I also think for all those bush haters and bush bashers that he could not do anything right in their eyes. If he pulled the troops out tommorow (which I absolutely do not agree with by the way) they would still be ragging on him. He can't win.

Why?

Ending the war in Iraq (Iraq wasn't at peace before the invasion) liberated millions of people and saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

OTOH I don't see how making the war "more active" in Afghanistan would help anyone.

So what if we got more individual terrorists? They grow back. But to get the Iraqis to fight for our side, THAT actually helped, and was as brilliant a move as it was to ally with the rebels in Afghanistan.
